Gangster A is trying to double-cross gangster B, who in turn is trying to eliminate gangster C - and all the time someone else may or may not be pulling all the stings. It's cheesy, it's formulaic, and does everything by the numbers.
But - it does it with style and panache. Provided you remember to check your brain at the door, it's seriously entertaining.

'The Gentlemen (2020) is fine, consistently engaging and occasionally quite fun. It does have a plethora of problems, though. First of all, it's never quite clear just who we're supposed to be rooting for. This doesn't feel intentional and seems to be the result of its odd, flashback-based structure. There isn't a great sense of escalation and the pace remains mostly consistent. The narrative doesn't catch up with itself until far too late and, even then, it's annoying how most of the story is told via narrated exposition to someone apparently directly involved with most of its events. Secondly, the flick is simply an amalgamation of genre tropes and stock characters, almost exactly what you expect from a Guy Ritchie movie that isn't 'Aladdin (2019. The characters aren't really given the time necessary to develop properly; they're always walking stereotypes. Some of them even seem like stand-ins for the director himself, with talk of "proper cinema" and references to films like 'The Conversation (1973) being "a bit boring. Finally, the flick is kind of racist. Almost every character makes some kind of racist remark, mainly against members of Asian and Black communities, and it's often used for supposed 'humour. The worst offence is probably when a major character says another has a 'black heart' while specifically referencing race. The flick's treatment of women isn't much better, with the only female character coming under the threat of rape just so she can be violently saved by a white man. It all feels outdated, like someone scrambling against apparent 'PC gone mad. Plus, a lot of time is strangely spent trying to justify its problematic elements; characters have discussions about whether or not certain racist remarks are actually racist. All of this results in an affair that only sours with time, staying in your mind just long enough for you to consider its faults and then slipping away into complete obscurity. It's really forgettable, probably because it's so generic. It's not terrible, though. As I mentioned, it's often quite enjoyable and it's always engaging. Hugh Grant's scene-stealing performance is a real highlight, too. It's messy and misjudged but it's entertaining enough to keep you in your seat. 5/10.

Not to say it’s without faults-but it’s a fun film that has an interesting approach to storytelling. In my opinion this keeps it interesting and doesn’t feel like just another London gangster film. The cast is great, especially Collin Farrell and Hugh grant. Hugh grants character is very entertaining (although some people may find him a little cringy). Definitely recommend seeing this if you wasn’t planning on already and would love to hear your thoughts.

He definitely changed my attitude towards him. I feel like he got a role he was made to play. That bit in the projects when he was chasing that kid was hilarious. Matthew McConaughey (aka Google that last name because who actually knows how to spell it) kicked ass. In real life everyone knows he’s a huge pot head this role was made for him! The king pin approach was not that of a typical one. He wasn’t ruthless without reason he took care of his people and in turn they took care of him. But when he looses it at the end and he yells “my wife” you felt his anger his pain and his genuine disappointment someone would be that stupid to think his weakest link in his empire could be fucked with and not have the proper repercussions. Michelle Dockery. Matthews wife in the movie, has one of the best moments in the movie. She comes in hot during her intro. So we know her reputation and she is the wife of this drug lord but she can hold her own as well. That scene at the end when she says “hello husband” I think... man it was like Superman entering the building haha I loved that. Henry Golding bravo!! This kid took me by total surprise his mini-villain was so great as Hugh grant said a “an Asian James Bond with a a ric-ense to kill” fuck that line had me rolling. He was a great character and his muddling with the plot had me intrigued. Colin son of a bitch. You god damm son of a bitch. I saved the best for last. Let’s just say I’ve been a fan of this legend since daredevil yes! I loved him as bulleye sue me!! His character as the “Coach” was awesome his whole crew and their tracksuit mafia bit was legendary. Colin had an interaction with a character named eernie and that two minutes of screen time was legendary. Guy Ritchie bounced back with an alley-oop dunk from Aladdin. This script was fun. It wasn’t a perfect story but it was really just a damm good time.

The structure and flashbacks like pulp fiction and the storyline and characters like Carlitos way. Absolutely brilliant film. Big props to guy Ritchie and the cast of this film.
